A short history of this castle:

Writings from the time of William the Conqueror attest to the existence of the town of Avelin around 1066. During the siege of Lille, King Louis XIV held council at the Château d'Avelin.

The Rotours family, originally from Normandy, settled in the castle in 1845 and became involved in the region as mayors, deputies, senators, and regional councillors. Bequeathed to the Pasteur Institute after World War II, the castle returned to the family thanks to the grandson of the Baron des Rotours, Baron Patrick de Ladoucette.

Known for the excellence of his wines, Baron Patrick de Ladoucette decided to turn it into a museum dedicated to wine and vineyards from his various domains, which would allow the castle to come back to life and present quality products from French wine regions and Cassis cultivated on the lands of the Château d'Avelin.
